Sound Factory Tapes on the Web
All files are 320kbps MP3s, so they may take a
while to download. If you have any problems
downloading them
let me know. Love and thanks
to MP for the gifts of the Sound Factory, Sound
Factory Bar & Robert Owens tapes. Some of these
tapes
I've already shared with Gman who
maintains the best mix archive on the web,
deephousepage.

* It's possible (although far from certain)  that this
Sound Factory tape is from the night Frankie
premiered "The Pressure" that he describes in the
tribute to Larry Levan that is on his website.

** Thanks to Mike for digging up a copy of this
tape.

*** Heartfelt thanks to house music legend Robert
Owens for generously giving permission for these
tapes to be shared. They were recorded @ home
on New York City's Lower East Side for a friend
circa 1990 and capture many tracks from this raw
and unique period in NY house music. They also
represent  the music that Robert was playing at
his club Visions (located in an old drive-in movie
theater on the corner of 11th Ave & 27th St)
during this time - a truly fierce party.
WARNING! These files have been
boobytrapped: Anyone who tries to
sell copies on EBay will experience a
head explosion in the style of the
movie "Scanners." More mundanely,
you'll also be reported to EBay for sale
of unauthorized copies of media.

These are the other tapes I know of:

Larry Levan, Recorded live @ Sound Factory NY Fri. 03/22/91
From deephousepage, which also has an MP3 version. Friday was typically
straight night at the club, while Saturdays  (Sunday mornings really, closing was
midday or later)  were gay. Friday night parties were discontinued mid-92.

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory 1992  Side A   Side B
Longer version of a tape that's also in the deephousepage mix archive (#435,
mislabeled as Frankie Knuckles).

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory May 1992
Posted to a website called The Mixing Bowl by spook.

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory NY Oct-93
Also from deephousepage.

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory NY  Side A   Side B
A longer version of the deephousepage tape linked to above (there's a side B), but
with weird and out-of-sync interjections saying "Junior Vasquez" dubbed over it in
a few places. Sound quality is very poor. From a website called
EZESKANKIN
mixtapes.

Junior Vasquez (& David Morales?), Sound Factory, 1993  Side A  Side B
The source of this was a bootleg CD labeled "Vasquez & Morales" and
although I can't remember any events where they played together, I figured I
should just label it as it was originally. The lead up to "Atom Bomb" on side B
sounds like classic Junior. If anyone out there remembers when this might be
from,
drop me a note. Whoever transferred the tape to CD made kind of a mess of
it, there were glitches at precise five minute intervals on both sides  which I've
done my best to edit out using
Audacity. There's also some nasty digital
background noise, headphone users beware.

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory, New Year 1994 side A side B
A deep, peak-time tape very kindly shared by Luis and Ulises Aviance.

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory, August 6, 1994
Radio broadcast generously shared by Whore of Babylon on the Junior Vasquez
message board.

Junior Vasquez, Sound Factory January 1995
From the House of Diabolique. This was shortly before the club closed on
February 12th, 1995.

The
deephousepage mix archive includes a number other great Sound Factory
Bar tapes.

Paris is Burning
Article from Faith Fanzine, includes Tedd Patterson's description of late morning
vogueing at Sound Factory. The Junior tape from 1/5/92 captures one of the
times Tedd is talking about, the music on side B in particular (Let's Go, Dub
Break, etc.) was an accompaniment to a vogueing battle that had broken out by
the speaker stack nearest the DJ booth.
